Laser is safer than...

You are safer without glasses:

What people may fail to consider is that laser eye vision correction is safer than having poor vision, especially in emergency situations. In an interview after 9/11, President Bush described how he had to guide his wife Laura, who is very nearsighted and was unable to locate her glasses, to a shelter during an emergency evacuation that occurred in the middle of the night.

For an Arkansas high school bandleader, not being able to see clearly nearly cost him his life. The plane carrying both him and his students home from a European performance crash‐landed and caught fire. Upon initial impact his glasses were knocked from his face and, because of his severe nearsightedness, he was unable to find his way out of the burning plane without the help of his students.

LASIK is safer than contacts:

Laser vision correction procedures are safer than the extended use of contact lenses. Those who wear contact lenses for many years lose some of the critical cells which are necessary for the well‐being and proper functioning of the cornea. Over time, many people develop intolerance to contact lenses. Wearers can also contract infections in the cornea, known as corneal ulcers, which require treatment with antibiotics. Lenses cannot be worn while treating these infections and some patients cannot resume wear even after the infection is treated. These infections can interfere with good vision, a greater risk if the infection is in the center of the cornea. It’s akin to having a scratch on your glasses. Infections are quite serious and some may even require a corneal transplant. There have been instances when the eye is lost entirely. To our knowledge, this has not occurred in a patient as a result of undergoing PRK or LASIK surgery. Furthermore, even without complications, contact lenses create a fundamental problem for the eyes. Long term wear, 20‐30 years for example, warps the cornea and in some cases permanently changes its shape. Contact lens wearers also often complain of redness, allergies and dry eyes.

"I am a 36 year old physician and I suffered with very bad eyes until I met Dr. Saimovici. He was the only one who understood the problem with my eyes and was able to correct them. I had LASIK in one eye and ICL in the other. What a miracle it is to be able to see again without glasses!”" – Luiza P., M.D.

"I cannot imagine what my life would have been like without the benefit of improved vision. God bless you!" - Patricia DiGiacomo
